The real question is “Do we get Him?”.
The very polished “he gets us” campaign seems on the surface to be all about love and tolerance. Many celebrated this “Christian” commercial as a refreshing change.
Interestingly, the people behind this planned billion dollar enterprise are hard to identify.
Thats because they used a “Donor Advised Fund” tax shelter which hides the contributors but still affords the tax benefit. Only the owner of Hobby Lobby has self identified as a contributor to this planned billion dollar enterprise. Creating the impression he is the typical contributor. Why the secrecy? A closer examination of the video content may be the answer.
The scenarios and tone presented in the spots (particularly the abortion clip) fit more with a recent push by self proclaimed social justice Christians to redefine Christianity to their liking. To put Christian “conservatives” in their place. Straw dogging them and of course, ending with the ever predictable tagline of “Haters.”
I’m not feeling the love .
Most offensive, in the midst of an ongoing bloodbath that worldwide is approaching 2 BILLION victims, is the depiction of the shadowy antiabortionists in the background with their backs turned to the mom. When in fact, those who actually show up on the front lines are there precisely because they REFUSE to turn their backs on the mom or her innocent child.
Keep in mind the mom depicted getting her feet washed is in the midst of a premeditated cold blooded violent act perpetrated against her own child.
Actually Jesus, who chose to come among us as such an unborn child, DOES “get us”. The “us” who have been sinning since Adam and Eve first turned their backs on God.
Indeed when “He” encountered those in the midst of an equally violent act (about to stone a woman to death) Jesus first priority was the protection of the intended victim. And He found a way to stop those perpetrators.
The financiers behind “he gets us” would have us washing the feet of the slave owner, WHILE he’s in the act of whipping his slave, turning our back on the actual victim, and mocking the abolitionists seeking to intervene.
They would have us washing the feet of the Auschwitz guard as he’s dropping the Zylon gas pellet into the gas chamber full of victims SCREAMING for help. Can you hear them? Sorry. They didn’t make the cut.
“He gets us” would have us wash the feet of a child sexual perpetrator, WHILE he’s in the act of abusing the child-and labeling those who FIRST seek to protect the child as “haters”.
The real washing of the “he gets us” enterprise is the white washing of the violence they turn their backs on, in order to further anestisize a Church that has been largely oblivious (disobedient?) to its God given DUTY to “warn the wicked man from his Evil ways”
So no thank you “he gets us” billion dollar enterprise I’m not drinking the Kool-Aid. But I do invite you to follow the lead of an antiabortionist who “gets God”, Chet Gallagher (who along with over a dozen other antiabortionists remains in federal prison for refusing to turn his back on the crime against humanity aka abortion) and Show Up at the abortion mill the abortion seeking moms in your area frequent and help “rescue those being dragged to the slaughter.” Plenty of room on the sidewalk!
